I hate winter, sitting around in side all the time, having to sleep in front of the heater, under the covers of Derek's waterbed, put up with being patted and stroked by the flatmates, ugg! horrible! But back to business, I don't have much time as Derek wants the computer (strange, he seems to think it's his to do with as he pleases ... funny things - humans ! ) anyway, I've been watching whats been going on around the hardware market recently and I'm getting quite pissed off. Why? I hear you ask. ( you do or else ... ) Is someone making bodgey equipment again ? Is Uncle Bill and St. MS causing trouble again ? Has my favourite fish monger gone out of business ? I don't think so, the thing that has been pissing me off is the price of ram ... but, but, but it's getting cheaper ! Yes and that's the problem. You see boys and girls it's quite simple. For the past few years we've all been busily complaining about the *SOFTWARE BLOAT* evident in some software houses products ... gee ! I simply can't think of one at the present time ... can you ? So here we are, everyone's been cracking the shits about memory hungary applications and not having enough ram, and what happens ... Do we all trot up the the doors of the offending companies and mass return their software ? do we write to our representatives in our local dictatorships (scuz me ... duly elected .... ) and complain about it. Do we in fact do anything bar complain ? No! so here we are, the worlds in the middle of ram getting so cheap it's going to be given away soon, and now these companies can just go on writing really humongously bad code which sucks up all your ram and continues to fall over. So I'm bitching about YOU, that's right, Yeah, yeah, I know, you've complained and basically been told to rack off cause you don't use that Window's thing ( Does any of this sound familiar Fractal Design ? ) but you have to keep it up. You have to get others to do it as well, LOTs of others. Microsoft has a 65%+ return rate in the states of Windows'95. Most of it because it's past it's Use By Date ( snigger! ) but a large percentage of it because it doesn't work on 4M systems as was promised, and now Mickeysoft want's eveyone to use NT. In my opinion, the best thing that could happen is that ram gets *REALY* expensive. Of course, I've now got 32M on board so I'll be alright for a year or so. But remember this, at the present rate of bad coding ( ... no! who ... no shit! ... ) the odds are that in a year's time, 32M will be the standard requirement in a computer, power users having 64M and turbo wee dicked electron heads at 128M. So just how far will 4 SIMM sockets go then ? ay ? Hssss........ Meeeow!
